Story

I grew up along the East Coast in Rhode Island and Maine. Those places shaped my earliest sense of style. Life in small seaside towns taught me to appreciate simple things made with care and detail. Later, my years in Montana and California added their own influence, giving me a love for natural light, clean lines, and the ease of clothes that feel lived-in. I enjoy distinctive looks and styles, particularly vintage silhouettes and well-made items. Pieces that are observant from afar and useful for many years to come.

My love for clothing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember - something I nurtured in myself from a young age. I would try on my mother's clothes and create outfits. I collected paper dolls and Barbies and used them to explore how different styles could make a person look and feel. Even as a child, I understood that clothing could help me find confidence when I felt unsure of myself. That understanding has stayed with me.

I come from a family where clothing matters. My dad, David, founded Mercer&Sons Shirtmakers in 1982, alongside my mom, Serena, who helped build the business into what it is today. I was raised amidst my parents' strong business partnership and their passion for creating well-made shirts, which I truly admired. Some of my earliest memories involve helping them pack shirts in our Adamsville office in Rhode Island. I remember the swatches of cloth, the handwritten order forms, the old computers, and my dad speaking with customers who had been with him for years. I quickly learned that treating customers well and producing a high-quality product was meaningful.

In my twenties and thirties, I explored my own interests. I worked in luxury retail, interior design, personal styling, and project management, and later earned a master's degree in clinical social work. Between those experiences, I continued to help my parents and learn more about the shirtmaking process. Over time, I realized how much my dad's shirts meant to me. They were steady, honest, and made without shortcuts. For years, I imagined what it would look like to offer the same impeccably crafted shirts for women.

With Maggie by Mercer, I have brought that idea to life. My shirts share the same foundation as Mercer&Sons, featuring the same cloth, collars, and American craftsmanship. I made small adjustments to create my signature Baggier&Better fit, which I had always wanted for myself, and to provide a go-to staple for women. The first collection features classic Oxford and pinpoint Oxford cloth, with additional styles to follow.
